Join us as a Comms & SCADA Governance Engineer and be a core member of our EDF Renewables (EDF-R) Engineering Team. You’ll enjoy having a particular focus in playing a key role in building a strong and compelling vision for delivering strong technical expertise within a dedicated discipline in the Engineering Governance Team, CTO, and wider business, demonstrating an ability to lead and add value to opportunities in a highly competitive and changing marketplace while ensuring appropriate Engineering and Quality standards are maintained.

The role can be based at EDF-R’s offices in Edinburgh or Houghton Le Spring. There is occasionally the opportunity to travel around the UK and internationally to build links with international teams and counterparts.

Day to day the successful candidate will:

  • Develop and have ownership of the future technical strategy and specifications for the control, communications, network infra-structure, and cyber-security systems for our assets across all renewable technologies from individual PLCs through to the interface with group IT networks
  • Ensure the technical specifications for key systems of newly procured assets are state-of-the-art and pragmatically govern the technical management of legacy assets
  • Specify the key requirements for an asset register of related assets which is maintained by others
  • Carryout cyber risk assessments for projects and existing assets
  • Oversee a monitoring programme to assure technical standards are met, risks are mitigated appropriately and monitor for obsolescence, emerging vulnerabilities / cyber threats, and betterment opportunities
  • Lead strategic improvement projects
  • Act as a technical authority for related management of change reviews
  • Advise the business on cyber response and recovery and how this links into the wider disaster recovery management
  • Advise the business on support strategy for hardware and software, including the key terms of associate support contracts
  • The Person

    The EDF Renewables ambition is to be a distinctive and recognised leader in the UK and Ireland, developing our assets under operation to c.5GW by 2030. As part of the CTO the EDF Renewables Engineering Team provides Engineering governance and support for all assets across their lifecycle from origination to decommissioning.

    You’ll thrive in this role if you possess very strong organisational skills, are able to prioritise and enjoy working in a team environment, and can demonstrate flexibility, excellent business focus and problem-solving skills. You will have knowledge of the SCADA system management and design.

    You’ll be a specialist in at least one engineering discipline within the renewables energy sector. You’ll have excellent interpersonal skills and be willing to share the cultural values of EDF Group, of honesty, integrity and cooperation. You have a good awareness of cyber security in battery, wind and solar farms.

    The Skills

  • Strong commitment to safety, health, environment and quality.
  • Minimum of an engineering degree in a relevant engineering discipline. Chartered membership of an appropriate body would be an advantage.
  • Highly proficient in key areas of engineering in the renewables environment.
  • Specialist in SCADA engineering discipline within the renewable energy sector.
  • Good understanding of OG86 and BS IEC 62443 and their practical application to SCADA systems
  • Strong experience of managing risks and challenges in a renewables environment.
  • Excellent at building successful relationships with external partners, peers, stakeholders and reporting line.
  • Good command of Microsoft Office package (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point, etc.).
  • NEBOSH or IOSH (or equivalent) is desirable.
  • Flexible to travel around the UK and overseas as the role requires.
  • Full clean UK driving licence.
  • Excellent (English) oral and written communication skills.
