In addition, EDF RUK is seeking to deliver further growth from its own development pipeline or though securing new acquisitions of projects and has more than 2GW consented, in planning and development.

The Role

The Head of Onshore Wind will be responsible for the defining the strategy for and delivering value from the onshore wind project portfolio and will be expected to deliver either directly or via cross-functional teams (including Strategy and Analysis team, the Development and Consenting team, the UK Technical teams and Group R&D team) the most competitive projects making the best use of the available development budget. Working within a technology that has the potential for significant growth within the UK, you’ll use unique business models to manage the portfolio and set the strategic direction through a combination of organic growth, partnering or acquisition.

Managing a team of up to 5 experienced business developers you will maintain overall responsibility for the onshore wind portfolio and allocation of the associated budget whilst also working closely with the Head of Development to define the strategy for the origination of new utility scale greenfield projects and the overall development pipeline.

A key part of this role will be to lead the investment decision process and therefore you will be to work with a number of parties to ensure that the portfolio is focused on competitive projects that can find a route to market and are ready for construction at the financial investment decision date thereby maximising the value of the development (or acquired) portfolio.

The Person

To be considered for this role you will be an experienced leader of renewable energy development projects who is looking for a more senior leadership position with one of the largest onshore wind developers in the UK or already has this experience.

The competitive nature of onshore wind is such that the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate innovation and creative thinking which will contribute to the delivery of EDFR’s bold vision. You will have already led a team of Project Developers, Investment Managers or other Business professionals with demonstrable experience working in a range of business environments (e.g. government policy development, planning, project development, project management, acquisitions, investment case approval), and will be able to demonstrate;

  • Experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team with budget responsibility.
  • Have a strong understanding of the renewable energy UK regulatory environment and management experience of business development. Prior experience of onshore wind development is preferred but not essential.
  • Have experience of sponsoring multiple projects through the development process to the Financial Investment Decision, including de-risking of the project, project optimisation, supply chain tendering and development of the investment case. Experience of managing discussions with potential Corporate PPA buyers would be beneficial.
  • Have experience of managing complex commercial discussions such as negotiations with third party developers and supply chain negotiations.
  • Ability to manage change in an evolving environment, identifying how the objectives of the organisation define and impact the development strategy. Be accustomed to a fast‐paced working environment, acting with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines spanning multiple and complex projects.
  • Ability to represent the interests of EDFR with senior external stakeholders (government, land owner, suppliers, partners etc)
  • Ability to forge relationships across the organisation and with our shareholders at all levels. Ability to deliver and make project or strategy recommendations to executives.
  • Experience of having already been a member of an organisation’s leadership team and experience of leading initiatives outside of the candidate’s normal area of work.
