HSSE Manager

Overview / Responsibilities:

Wood is recruiting an HSSE Manager to support one of our Subsea & Export Systems projects. This role will manage the project health, safety, security and environmental function and acts as Offshore Project HSSE Site Lead. Set a Safety agenda for top quartile occupational safety and deliver a step change in local safety culture. Deliver the project with zero LTIs and meeting or exceeding corporate HSSE key indicators.


Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and development:

  • Provide leadership and direction to drive the team to achieve HSSE objectives of No accidents, No Harm to people, No Damage to environment
  • Promote Client’s Golden Rules and lifesaving rules
  • Create a work environment that promotes health, safety, security and environmental wellbeing
  • To ensure compliance with all applicable local and international HSSE legislation
  • Lead and direct the worldwide HSSE team
  • Provide leadership to key contractor organizations at senior management levels
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and direct them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work
  • Set standards and clear expectations to ensure that all team members are aligned to the project vision, mission and objectives
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the HSSE team – oversee the implementation of corrective actions and review mitigation and resolution activities
  • Implement opportunities for development of Client’s staff and ensuring that adequate coaching and mentoring is in place
  • Project Delivery:

  • Accountable and leads the work of the HSSE Team in a technically highly complex project. Responsible for coordinating HSSE activities on a mega-project in accordance with scope, schedule and budget
  • The Department Manager HSSE is accountable and leads the work of the HSSE team that covers, subsurface and well program, subsea SURF and SPS equipment, Shallow Water Platform (Jacket and Topsides) Gas Production Pipeline with complex shore crossing and Onshore Metering Station and Control Room, as well as oversite of Drilling activities
  • Responsible to ensure that all permits are in place and manages compliance of the permitting to local requirements
  • Responsible for adequate and robust incident/emergency and crisis management capability is in place in the project, and ensures this is exercised to maintain competence and readiness
  • Leads internal/external briefing sessions with respect to project HSSE requirements and processes
  • Accountable for HSSE compliance with company and authority standards. Represents project towards partners, contractors and vendors for HSSE subjects
  • Manages project HSSE risk
  • Defines HSSE interface procedures
  • Accountable for the basic HSSE systems effectiveness and approves contractor HSSE plans and procedures
  • Interfaces with engineering and construction, contractors and partners. Coordinates permitting requirements as appropriate for the project
  • Estimate the resources needed to achieve project goals – secure location resources based on the specific skill and budget requirements and monitor (and adjust) throughout the project
  • Supports project lessons learned and create recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements
  • Maintains current knowledge of and disseminates information on changes to applicable regulations
  • Through networks and membership of industry bodies, maintains current knowledge of and disseminates information on relevant actual and potential incidents from which the project can learn and prevent recurrence, or translate to other relevant operations
  • Reporting:

  • Sets and maintains annual HSE Plans for the project as a whole, reporting against these on a regular basis
  • Sets and maintains leading and lagging statistical data and comparison with relevant industry benchmarks
  • Prepares governmental reports and participates in representation with outside agencies
  • Stakeholder management:

  • Manage relationship with internal stakeholders, including steering committee and corporate functions
  • Manage Joint Venture partner relationships in regard to project
  • Set clear expectations and provide leadership to public relations team to ensure positive and clear public image of the project is maintained
  • Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project
  • Skills / Qualifications:


    Minimum requirements:

    Previous oil & gas industry experience as an HSSE professional including broad based international experience with prior leadership experience.


    Education:

  • University degree in engineering or HSSE related field

  • Relevant Professional experience:

  • Experience in HSSE leadership for complex offshore projects with multiple interfaces.

  • Relevant Professional skills:

  • Strong personal commitment to HSSE and Quality
  • Managerial experience and leadership skills
  • Communication and negotiation skills, managing large technical groups, interaction with authorities
  • Proven track record (leadership skills and responsibility, experience in steering of a Department, people management and staff motivation, etc.)
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
