A new opportunity has arisen within EDF Renewables (EDF-R) UK Legal Team, for an experienced Solicitor to join us and be a core member of our team. The role will focus on corporate and transactional activities relating to renewables projects across all technologies EDF-R operates in the UK and Ireland (onshore wind, offshore wind, battery and solar). The team operates a partnering model in the delivery of renewables projects so embed themselves within project teams to be able to deliver a pro-active and commercially relevant legal service to EDF-R, all of its business units, subsidiaries and any wholly owned subsidiaries of the Shareholders. The role will involve limited travel between EDF-R’s offices in Edinburgh, Durham, London and Dublin. There is occasionally opportunity to travel internationally to attend training and build links with international teams and counterparts.

EDF Renewables UK (“EDF RUK”) is one of the UK’s leading renewable energy companies, specialising in wind power, solar and battery storage technology. EDF RUK develops, builds, operates and maintains wind farms, solar parks and other renewable technologies throughout their lifetime. The EDF RUK portfolio of nearly 1,000 MW consists of 35 wind farms – including two offshore wind farms – and one of the largest operational battery storage units in Europe.

Day to day the successful candidate will be an experienced Solicitor who will:

  • Focus on providing legal support to corporate acquisitions, joint ventures, disposals and reorganisations.
  • Draft, negotiate and advise on commercial contracts including NDAs, SPAs, and SHAs.
  • Prepare and feed into internal approval papers for transactions.
  • Manage the engagement of external legal, defining the scope of work and negotiating fees whilst maintaining and building on existing working relationships, manage budget and timely delivery, and act as the interface between law firms and the commercial teams of EDF-R.
  • The Person

    We are seeking a highly motivated Solicitor to focus on supporting corporate acquisitions, joint ventures, disposals and reorganisations, draft, negotiate and advise on a range of commercial contracts, joint‐venture and shareholder documentation. You’ll have excellent interpersonal skills and be willing to share the cultural values of EDF Group of honesty, integrity and cooperation.

    You will work as part of a dedicated M&A legal team which sits within the wider EDF Renewables UK legal team and which is spread across the UK.

    You’re driven by high standards of work and professionalism and will also have high expectations for yourself and the team. You have an entrepreneurial spirit and are a self‐starter. You can maintain a clear head and efficient manner and are accustomed to a fast paced working environment, acting with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines spanning multiple and complex legal projects. You’ll thrive in this role if you possess very strong organisational skills, are able to prioritise and enjoy working in a team environment, and can demonstrate flexibility, excellent business focus and problem-solving skills.

    The Skills

  • 3+ years post qualification experience in transactional work (with some experience in the energy sector preferred but not essential and exposure to project development and construction, operation and maintenance, and other related energy work would be beneficial.
  • Have experience of drafting and negotiating complex commercial and/or corporate contracts, analyse legal issues and provide comprehensive and practical legal advice to all levels of management throughout the company, becoming a valued partner.
  • Be a people person with strong interpersonal and communication skills including an ability to adapt your communication style to suit your audience whether that’s key stakeholders in EDF-R or its shareholders, your commercial colleagues, external advisors or in negotiations with counterparties.
