Currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Superintendent on a permanent staff basis for an international Drilling Contractor based in Aberdeen. Although predominantly an onshore-based support role, there will be the requirement to work offshore, on occasion. The post holder will also need to have experience of providing onshore support to multiple rigs. Reporting to the Field Support Manager, the Mechanical Superintendent will be accountable for ensuring mechanical and structural systems onboard the Company’s rigs are fit-for-purpose and are properly maintained.

The Mechanical Superintendent will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Planning and executing the deployment schedule of rotating Vector Teams across the fleet to optimise rig performance. Visits may be planned audits, equipment repairs, scheduled maintenance, or related to unplanned downtime events.
  • Analysing data and making maintenance and repair recommendations that improve the marketability, efficiency and profitability of company assets.
  • Determining equipment replacement schedules; supervising replacement planning and implementation.
  • Providing support to ensure required parts, capital spares and consumables are available, when and where needed, for assigned assets.
  • Ensuring effective action and closure of asset management notices, vendor bulletins and safety alerts related to equipment.
  • Reviewing rig maintenance performance against performance measures.
  • Assisting or leads in RCA process.
  • Assisting in managing between wells maintenance cycle, from scope definition to closeout.
  • Ensuring documentation for equipment is up-to-date and in compliance with relevant regulation and company standards.
  • Reporting to management on status of new installation projects and requirements for spares.
  • Coordinating, monitoring, supporting and reporting progress to achieve operational functionality, as defined in the scope of work, timing and budget commitments in assigned AFE.
  • Maintaining cost forecasts for major projects to inform budget process.
  • Monitoring capital projects to ensure work scope remains aligned with original objectives.
  • Managing customer relationships from operational aspects to ensure the delivery on commitments.
  • Working with rig personnel and Vector Teams to develop successful solutions to requests for engineering assistance.
  • Assisting in performance reviews for Mechanical Department and Vector Teams.
  • Experience / Qualifications:

  • A relevant Engineering degree qualification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience of managing mechanical maintenance and repair programmes for offshore drilling rigs is essential.
  • Previous and recent experience in a similar onshore-based Mechanical Superintendent type role, directly with a Drilling Contractor, is essential.
  • A strong hands-on offshore mechanical background (i.e. previous experience of working as a Rig Mechanic, or similar) is essential.
  • Previous troubleshooting experience and rig knowledge, in relation to high spec Jack-up’s and Floaters, is essential.
  • Previous experience of providing onshore support to multiple rigs is essential.
  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic drilling equipment, including top drives, drawworks, pipe handling and racking systems, is essential.
  • Experience with caterpillar and EMD engines is essential.
