We are seeking an Offshore Geotechnical Engineer to join our geotechnical team offering services in the Offshore Energy sector. Ideally, candidates will have worked in the offshore sector for a minimum of 2 years and have experience in geotechnical design and analysis.
We need to increase our resources to meet the growing demands from our clients for both oil & gas and renewable energy projects. As a result, we’re looking to grow our geotechnical team and looking for people with the drive and enthusiasm to embrace the challenge.
The successful applicant will be a geotechnical engineer with ambition and potential to become an invaluable part of the geotechnical team. The applicant will be performing geotechnical engineering studies under the supervision of a more senior engineer within our Newcastle office, however, may be expected to work from home for some periods and therefore must be capable of independent working. Offshore supervision of some projects may be required from time to time.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
The Geotechnical Engineer will work as part of a team on engineering and consultancy assignments for a range of offshore wind farm and oil and gas projects. Duties in these projects will include:
Site investigation scoping and supervision
Interpretive reporting and geotechnical parameter selection, involvement in production of geotechnical ground model
Involvement in cable risk analysis, from routing to cable burial assessment and tool selection/performance
Involvement in conceptual foundation design
Involvement in detailed foundation design
Involvement in detailed analyses (e.g. scour analysis, drivability analysis, spudcan leg penetration analysis)
The Engineer will be expected to:
Assist on projects to accomplish the overall delivery of optimum solutions to clients with the timeframe, costs and quality standards established
Attend regular internal meetings and external / third party meetings as required
Follow all instructions, procedures and policies as applicable.
Attend site/provide offshore supervision as required
A civil engineering academic background with a relevant geotechnical degree (ideally MSc or equivalent)
Experience of acting as a geotechnical engineer in an engineering consultancy environment.
Excellent report writing skills
The following experience is advantageous:
Experience in the design and supervision of offshore site investigations
Experience in the design of foundations types including driven piles, monopiles, spud-cans, suctions caissons and gravity bases
Experience in cable routing, cable burial studies and near-mudline geotechnical characterisation studies
Experience in interpretive reporting and geotechnical parameter selection
Experience in the following software or ability/inclination to learn new software as appropriate:
Proficiency in Visual Basic and Matlab;
Allpile or Lpile;
Oasys Alp; and
Finite Element Analysis
Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team including engineers, contract managers or QHSE personnel.
Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work within a multicultural company
Ability to work under own initiative where appropriate.
Ability to work in an offshore environment on an occasional basis.
Attention to detail and high level of numerical accuracy and the ability to prioritise work.
Ability to work in a structured and organised way
High level of proficiency in English language
