Senior Installation Manager

The Senior Installation Manager will be tasked to deliver the Transport and Installation works of the Offshore Substation of a wind farm, from planning at early stages, tendering, contract negotiation and management of execution, up to handover to O&M.
The candidate must be a professional with solid background and experience on offshore installation works, competent to specify, evaluate and supervise installation works, as well as to manage multiple activities and interfaces. Relevant experience on installation of Offshore Wind substations and/or Oil & Gas platforms is required. Along the lifetime of the project, she/he should be able to adapt to various roles within the team, either general or specific.
All the above while ensuring quality, best practices and excellent H&SE performance are applied.
The individual will be working as part of a global business with activities in many countries across Europe and the rest of the world. The position may require frequent travel to various locations in the UK and overseas and during development, contracting and delivery of installation. The individual should be prepared to work with teams at different locations.


Main responsibilities will include:

  • To be one of the leaders the Offshore Substation (OSS) and/or Offshore Converter Station (OFCS) Transport and Installation (T&I) matters all along the project.
  • To acquire a good level of understanding of the site conditions and project characteristics.
  • To provide (or manage the procurement of) the solution to all technical aspects of the OSS T&I, especially focused on the installation engineering and on the planning of the offshore operations.
  • To support the review and provide recommendations regarding the T&I Contractor proposals, including but not limited to transport plan, lift plans/ drawings, installation sequences, weather limitations, weather down time estimations, etc., and confirm compliance with the available codes and standards (including MWS).
  • Risk assess the technical feasibility of OSS T&I Contractor proposals to ensure that all risks are identified are evaluated and the risk profile is fully understood.
  • Confirm proposals and activities are implemented appropriately to meet the project programme, quality and budgetary requirements.
  • Participate in Project meetings as necessary, in any location they may be held (e.g. Iberdrola Group offices, contractors’ facilities, etc.).
  • Attendance to supervise and monitor Contractor’s activities at fabrication yard, mobilisation port(s) and offshore site.
  • To provide support and assistance on the interface management with other OSS packages (e.g. Engineering and Fabrication) and other project packages (especially those with offshore operations content). This includes the support on the planning of the load-out operations and installation activities.
  • Project management and administration support, including: Supervision of the Contractor’s activities; Prepare, raise and reply to Technical Queries, with advice and recommendations; Prepare progress reports and minutes of meetings, as required; Collaborate on the elaboration and submittal of communications to the Contractor; liaise with Document Controller and ensure compliance with document control procedure; Internal reporting to project management and other stakeholders.
  • General technical and management support to activities related to the offshore wind farm, as required.
  • Assess Health, Safety and the Environmental regulatory, Consenting and legal compliance.
  • Ensure appropriate lessons learnt are captured and shared.
  • Work on activities at business level (across-projects, with the Installation Management Team) as required, reporting to Line Manager.
  • Skills and Requirements

    We are looking for individuals with excellent communication, interpersonal skills and cultural awareness.
    You will need to demonstrate as a minimum:

  • Educated to Degree level in relevant engineering discipline (Naval, Civil or Mechanical).
  • Demonstrable experience in delivering projects
  • Demonstrable experience in offshore installation operations
  • Working knowledge and understanding of: UK and European Health and Safety legislation relevant to offshore structures and marine operations; Standards/regulations and best practices on heavy lifting, maritime transport and offshore installation, especially N001/02 Marine Operations and Marine Warranty.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of: Construction planning/ Estimations/ Risk Management/ Management of interfaces of multidisciplinary teams spread across multiple locations
  • IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems and other IT based project management software.
  • Commercial awareness on T&I contracts.
  • What we offer

    This is a Permanent Full-time contract. Salary for this role will be min. from £51440 per annum, annual Bonus up to 15% and Health Insurance single coverage.
