Technical Authority

Overview / Responsibilities:

Wood is currently looking to recruit a Technical Authority, with a mechanical background, to join its team in Aberdeen.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish and implement best engineering practice to comply with Company standards and Regulatory requirements.

Monitor and maintain operational controls that ensure compliance with company HSES Policy, CMAPP, and Safety Cases.

Identify, quantify, and communicate risks associated with deviation from Performance Standards, Operating Procedures and Regulatory requirements.

Plan and execute assurance activities that demonstrate compliance with HSE Policy, CMAPP, technical standards, and Safety Cases.

Set a Continuous Improvement agenda to ensure sustained conformity with legislation and standards.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Converts Corporate Standards, Regulatory Requirements, and Industry best practice into UKBU procedures to ensure compliance with company HSE Policy, CMAPP, and Safety Cases.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains Performance Standards for Safety and Environmentally Critical Equipment
  • Identifies, quantifies, and communicates the risks associated with deviation from Safety Case, Performance Standards, Procedures and Regulatory Requirements. Elevates risk status to the Engineering Authority when deemed necessary
  • Provides leadership and input to Operational Risk Assessments.
  • Reviews and endorses all Safety Critical Deferrals for

  • Maintenance routines
  • Risk Based Inspection activities
  • Repair orders
  • Reviews Technical Change Requests in line with the Technical Change Procedure
  • Provides technical assurance support to Major Projects
  • Conducts preparatory site audits ahead of planned Regulator Inspections
  • Skills / Qualifications:


  • Educated to degree level in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status
  • Qualified to travel offshore in UKCS

  • Experience:

  • Extensive experience of UK offshore Oil & Gas industry
  • Significant design and operational experience in the UK offshore Oil & Gas industry
  • Should be conversant with Brownfield installation modification process(s) in North Sea
  • Familiar with project / developments / operations and typical oil company processes
